Birdwoman
This piece is from my exclusive edition of Giclée prints* of Birdwoman.
I have Birdwoman with a green pillow and a blue pillow.
They are made on 100% cotton, watercolor paper and the edition is signed and
numbered to a maximum of 30 pieces in the size: 55x125 cm and 100 in the size
45x100 cm and 100 in the size 26x60 cm.
Story behind the creation.
Made of tales and story’s and a whole lot of love. The first birdwoman I made was
laying on a blue pillow and this original is a sewn paper collage who is fixed
between two glass sheets, so it ́s partly transparent.
I later made a green version of the birdwoman where I decided to create a different collage right on top of one an existing print I made of her. So I replaced all the blue hues with various green music covers, papers, and cartoons, and sew it together, adding stitching for texture.
The inspiration for this piece actually came from an image I found in a discarded
Playboy magazine. All the materials I use in my work and collages are recycled, I
primarily collect books and magazines from bulky waste, and fabrics come from old
cushions, scarves, plastic bags, and similar found objects.
The work is open to interpretation, but in the original piece, where the legs are placed
between two glass sheets, appearing to float in mid-air, my wish has been to express
the complexity of feeling both confined, trapt and longing for freedom. I imagined the
bird carrying her away, flying her out of her suspended state and in to a better and
lighter place.
