Story behind the creation.
Birds Flying High emerged during a period in which I submerged myself beneath the
surface. Creatively. I allowed my inspiration to take shape through experiments with
underwater portraits, playing with reflections, especially the distortions that occur
where water meets air, as the face and hair fragment into a thousand pieces.
Working with water as an element feels deeply natural to me. I have always been
drawn to the sea, as many of my works reveal.
I grew up on the west coast of Denmark, and since my parents were swimming
instructors, the scent of chlorine was a constant presence in our home. My siblings
and I all became competitive swimmers, and I have long felt as though an eternal tide
runs through my veins, now intertwined with saltwater. I try to return to the sea a few
times a week, sometimes just for a cold dip, and when the energy is there, I windsurf
as well.
