Story behind the creation.
Marie is one of the women from my shared studio in Copenhagen, and I convinced
her to be the model for my next underwater works. So we jumped into our swimsuits
(and shirts) and did a slightly illegal underwater photoshoot at the local swimming
pool. Gosh, we had fun - like two schoolgirls who stole candy... until we were
discovered by the lifeguard..
Working with water as an element feels very natural to me. I’ve always been drawn
to the sea (as many of my pictures may reveal). I grew up on the west coast of
Denmark, and as me and my siblings were children of parents who taught
swimming, the scent of chlorine was also a familiar presence in my home, and we
all became competitive swimmers. So I’ve always felt as though an eternal tide runs
through my veins, now intertwined with saltwater. I try to embrace the sea a couple
of times a week, sometimes just for a cold dip, but when the energy is there,
I windsurf too.
